Monkey Bar, India’s finest Gastropub in Kolkata serves some signature dishes with a playful twist. The Camac Street outlet at the 9th floor of Fort Knox has already made its mark on the city palate with its quirky pub grub. The ambiance bathing in natural light offers the most incredible view of the City of Joy. You can’t miss graffiti of Satyajit Ray’s Goopy Gyne and Bagha Byne on a hand-pull rickshaw, that too in pyjamas!
Loaded Chicken Nachos are crispy tortilla chips baked with molten cheese and beans. Topped with fresh tomato jalapeno salsa, avocado, sour cream and spring onion. This is a cheesy and flavor-packed recipe that everyone prefers as finger food.
Chicken Chimichurri is grilled tender chicken coated with magical chimichurri sauce which originated in Latin America. The zesty green sauce made with fresh parsley, garlic, wine vinegar, red chili and olive oil creates quite a punch. The smoky flavor from grill gives a impressive touch.
Butterfly Chicken is claimed to one of their signature dishes. The butterfly shaped fried wanton shell is stuffed with chicken pieces tossed with sesame, chilli, honey and peppers. Not so impressed with the taste but presentation was eye-candy.
Aunty Vinnie’s Berry Pulao is an Iranian delicacy, awesome combo of pulao served with onion beresta, little berries and yummy meat. The top layer of the dish has fried chicken balls on a bed of aromatic rice. The shredded chicken and curry forms the last layer at the bottom of the bowl. The sweet touch from berries and beresta keeps a ever lasting impression.
Mobar Bork is an Asian bowl consists of crisp fried pork belly served on a bed of noodles and vegetables with a black bean sauce. The pork was not fried to my preference and salt content was high.
Chicken Katsu is is a crunchy and flaky Japanese-style fried chicken served with aromatic rice. The most exciting thing about this dish is the chicken, it’s perfectly crispy outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Served with a half boiled egg and fried garlic on the top. Indeed a sinful bowl.

Being a chocolate fanatic, cannot afford to miss their chocolate based desserts. Snicker Bar which is an indulgence of chocolate ganche, dark chocolate cake and salted caramel gel. Old Monkey Chocolate Cake is a brilliant chocolate cake with a heavy dash of Old Monk and garnished with caramel and praline, is a must try! Gives a boozy end to my meal.
I was there at Monkey Bar with two little monkeys (my twin toddlers) and must mention about the patience and courteous hospitality received from Mr. Joy Guha and his team.
Bro Tip: Must try Chicken Chimichurri, Aunty Vinnie’s Berry Pulao, Chicken Katsu and Old Monkey Chocolate Cake
